Un Week-end à l'Est : concert de Tigran Hamasyan
As part of the Un Weekend à l'Est festival devoted to Yerevan
A virtuoso explorer of contemporary jazz, pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan presents The Bird of a Thousand Voices, a new creation steeped in Armenian culture.
Tigran Hamasyan has been at the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene since his early teens. Using traditional music as material, he builds a world dominated by dreams, eminently cinematographic. He cultivates an innovative, ever-changing musical language, nourished in particular by the traditional repertoire of his native Armenia. Often compared to Keith Jarrett for his inhabited performances, he reaches high levels of intensity on stage. In fervent dialogue with three other musicians and a singer with an angelic voice, he deploys a new piece here, The Bird of a Thousand Voices, inspired by an ancient Armenian tale conveying a universal call to spiritual awakening. A no-holds-barred, no-holds-barred approach to music in direct touch with emotion, served up by an inhabited interpretation.
