Usually, Alceste is irritable. Today he is irritated. Something, or someone is just not right. This particular misanthrope, according to Sivadier, is first and foremost the creation of a crisis, a theatrical one as much as a social one. Alceste may be sick, and, without knowing it, afflicted with an excessive amount of bitterness towards the world, but his criticism of humanity is not just a symptom. Sivadier likes the “strangeness of this very political play, precisely because on the surface, it appears to deal only with the private sphere.” He also likes the dark energy of a hero in whom he sees “part of each of us”, eternally at war against the other part: the very sociable Philinte, who accommodates everyone, at the risk of compromise. Jean-François Sivadier and Nicolas Bouchaud, meet up again, along with other companions (amongst them Norah Krief), in order to undertake a new leg in their theatrical journey at the Odeon Theater.
