Familiar with Chekhov’s work (he staged The Cherry Orchard, The Seagull, Three Sisters), Braunschweig approaches this fourth play in original language thanks to the invitation of the Theatre of Nations in Moscow with great Russians actors (Evgueni Mironov, Elizaveta Boyarskaya, Julia Peresild, and Anatoly Beliy) heirs of the great Russian tradition of art theatre.« Climate is unsettled » assesses Astrid in Uncle Vania, furious at an ever nature plundering humanity. His misanthropy echoes with feelings shared by the grim diagnoses of our scientists. Stéphane Braunschweig grasps in Vania the metaphor of a powerless world facing a predicted catastrophe. Beyond daily malaise, he observes a greater frustration: feeling so little before a peril gone global.
